Wensleydale is excellent walking country. Here are some ideas:
Local buses Wensleydale’s local buses are a great way to create a linear walk - catch the bus to your starting point and then walk back. For up-to-date information about local bus services, including buses on summer Sundays, see the Dalesbus website. Aysgarth Falls Aysgarth Falls makes a good destination for a walk. There is a fine cafe in the Visitors Centre, and you can use the Wensleydale Vintage Bus to cut out some (or virtually all) of the walking if you wish. See the Aysgarth Falls page for further details. Basic safety precautions When walking in Wensleydale, suitable clothing and footwear is essential as the weather can change unexpectedly. Check the weather forecast in advance wherever possible. Don’t forget refreshments, especially drinks, and check in advance the times when meals will be available in pubs (especially on Boxing Day when some do not serve food at all). Take care on narrow roads and always try to walk on the outer side of bends. Wear something reflective in the dark. |
