redmire imagesRedmire station is the current terminus of our services. Located some 22 miles from Northallerton, it lies on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Originally trains ran on through the dales via Aysgarth, Askrigg and Hawes to meet the Settle-Carlisle line at Garsdale 18 miles away.

Right in the heart of the dale, the station offers some of the best views around and it is ideally placed for a walk further into Wensleydale or up to Bolton Castle.

Redmire station’s postcode for your GPS is DL8 4ES.

Station facilities

Tickets
At present Redmire Station is unstaffed. To travel just board the train and purchase your ticket from our on-train staff.

Bus links
Local bus services to Upper Wensleydale destinations operate from Redmire village green.

Refreshments
Though the station offers no refreshment facilities, The Bolton Arms in Redmire village offers meals and accommodation.  For details of menus and opening times call 01969 624336.

Toilets
There are no public toilets at the station.  The nearest toilets are in the village hall in Redmire.  To reach these leave the platform and walk along the station lane past the sidings.  At the main road turn left and follow the road into the village centre.

Parking
There is plenty of parking at the station adjacent to the platform.  To access the car park use the lane from the main road between Wensley and Redmire.  If coming from Wensley, the station access is on the right just before the railway bridge; take care making the turn into the station lane. Coming from Redmire, pass thorough the village (towards Leyburn) and the access is on the left just after the railway bridge.

Things to do

Walks
There is a great footpath network around Redmire and there are walks to suit all tastes.  Ask any of the train staff for a leaflet showing the main walking routes or take a look at the map at the station.

If you are planning a walk from the station, the best map to use is OS Explorer Map OL30.  This is available to purchase from the gift shops in Leyburn and Leeming Bar stations.

Bolton Castle
Bolton Castle is just a half hour walk (quite steep hill up to the castle!) from the station on field paths.  For tours of the medieval castle, tea rooms and a great view over the dale just follow the signed route from the car park.

For more details and opening times, call 01969 623981.

Did you know?

Redmire station still sees occasional freight trains, which load and unload in the sidings to the west of the platform.

Until 1990 a train carrying limestone ran from Redmire to Teesside every day.

Until 2003 Redmire station had not seen regular passenger services since 1954. At that time, the site was completely without electricity, with the platform being lit by oil lamps.
