LEEMING BAR ENGINE SHED APPEAL

Our small team of paid staff and volunteers have maintained rolling stock in the open for many years now.  The severe weather last December illustrated the problems graphically: when many other railways were cancelling services in the freezing pre-Christmas weather, our vitally important Santa trains were kept running.  Starting fifty-year-old diesels outside in temperatures as low as -14 with water freezing as it ran along hoses, and keeping our volunteers warm, was an uphill struggle.  We cannot continue in this way.

The WRA is therefore supporting the Wensleydale Railway in the construction of covered accommodation (a new two road engine shed capable of housing four coaches or locomotives) at our Leeming Bar site.  The WRA has already committed an impressive £25,000 towards this initiative and the plc is dedicating some share capital to the cause. The completion of the project will not only revolutionise the Railway but also act as a springboard for many of the future developments we are all keen to see.
