Grand Central operates four services a day (three on Sundays) between Sunderland, Hartlepool, Northallerton, Thirsk, York and London. It’s a very comfortable way to travel to Northallerton.
Most services are operated by High Speed Trains but class 180 trains are also used. There is plenty of leg-room, the seats are all next to windows and there is free wi-fi and power sockets for mobile phones and laptops.
In First Class you can relax with extra room, reclining seats and more space to work. Complimentary light refreshments are served all day. Weekend First upgrades are available on all weekend services and on Bank Holidays.
Fares are good value and, except for promotional offers, you pay the same price online, on the phone, on the train or at the station. Save time and take the hassle out of buying your ticket at the station by booking online at www.grandcentralrail.com or by calling 0844 811 0071. For last minute journeys just jump on the train and buy your ticket from the onboard staff at no extra cost.
These pictures show Grand Central’s first class 180 train at King’s Cross on 29 July 2009 being named “James Herriot”. The ceremony was carried out by James Herriot’s son and daughter Jim Wight and Rosie Page.
